Many years ago I had the privilege of meeting the philosopher and savant Ivan Illich. I spent several hours with him, trying to conduct some kind of interview. He objected to an actual recording, so I had to take notes, but afterwards they did not seem to make much sense. The interview was destined for a collection of interviews, so I felt I had to produce something. What emerged is this.
In the end, it was rejected by the editor (who was, as it happens, myself) and, although typeset and camera-ready, it lhas anguished in a bottom drawer since the mid-70s. I felt that perhaps as a matter of historical interest it was worth making available.
